Question for the Internet Wonder Boy

Ok D, I've been searching around for a part-time job this summer and on craigslist I found this site called http://www.marketresearchjob.com/ It's one of those sites where you fill out surveys, participate in product focus groups, etc for money. Is it possible to know whether or not this is a scam? The idea of filling out surveys on my own time for some extra cash seems like too good of an idea....

Thanks!

Time for another party!!

Alright, so I've been brainstorming another party, sine the New Year's Bash was so successful. I'm thinking of doing it around my birthday, so either Saturday the 11th or the following weekend the 18th. And the theme will be karaoke! I've spoken to enough people who are interested and want to participate, but does anyone else have ideas to contribute to this? It very well could be a party of various groups, much like the New Year's party. A fellow teacher at my school who runs karaoke parties on the side has offered his services for the party at half price for a few hours, and we may get some colleagues from school. We'll probably get neighbors to swing by, and I'd love to get the Port Washington crew that was here for New Year's (Syd and her friends). So, I'm thinking make some food, get some drinks (we have a mini-bar left over from New Year's, though we'd need beer and maybe some more vodka and such). Anyone we can think of is invited, of course. Who's in???

The I-word

This would be so cool! I've been waiting for this for almost 3 years - Congressional talk about censuring or impeaching Bush for offenses against the Constitution. The Bush administration has made so many mistakes in their 5 years in office, it is about time. Manipulations of intelligence, retribution against their critics (Joseph Wilson and his wife), encouragement of the use of torture, illegal wire taps on US citizens, and, oh yeah, their determination to go to war with Iraq before they had Congressional approval are just a few of the major errors Bush's team has made. I'm not sure what successful impeachment would actually mean for Bush's remaining term, but I can't imagine he'd be happy about it. (Might it kick him out of office?). In any case, twould be a major political blow for him and his cabinet.

And anyone else we know who reads this -

John, Caitie, and myself (and possible Pops and uncle Jed) are going to a lower east side karaoke bar tomorrow night and we want you there! Hope you can make it.

Wine and dance and celebration

A day and a half later, and I am mostly recovered from a Dionysian night of revelry shared with friends. Along with the monetary cost of hosting a party, the time equivilant is the cleanup. The majority was done in the first four or five hours after awaking yesterday afternoon, but I'm still cleaning dishes, and the floor certainly still needs a good mopping. Guests were courteous and nothing was broken (can't say the same for John's bar) and I expected nothing less than a thoroughly rowdy crew.

I don't believe that it was a unique or even a rare evening, but I was thrilled that everyone mixed so easily. I felt as if each group of people blended together and were friends from the instant they walked in the door. We had the Port Washington crew, the Binghamton crew, the Jersey crew, and a random smattering of others in the same space. I know that there were many things I missed during the evening, hundreds of interactions I was unaware were happening. But from everything people said and everything I witnessed and felt, it was truly an evening of friendship, togetherness, and comfort - I felt smart, lucky, and blessed to have been there.
